New Delhi, December 5 Scholar and Islamic activist Mufti Shamsuddin Ahmed, who died on December 4, was laid to rest here today at Batla House graveyard amidst a large number of relatives and admirers. Earlier, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri, Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind led the ‘salaat-e-janaaza’ (Burial Prayers) at the Masjid Ishaat-e-Islam Trust located in the vicinity of Markaz Jamaat, Abul Fazal Enclave, Jamia Nagar, Okhla.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Mohammed Jafar, Naib Ameer Jamaat; Nusrat Ali, Secretary General, Jamaat; Dr Abdul Haque Ansari, former Ameer, Jamaat; Parwaaz Rahmani, Editor, Sehroza Daawat; Ejaz Aslam, Editor, Radiance Viewsweekly and other leaders and associates of Jamaat, besides Dr Shakil Tamanna, Deputy Superintendent, Majidia Hospital; Qamar Alam, former AMU students union leader; and Mohammed Alam, social activist and son of Dr Mohammed Manzoor Alam, IOS Chairman.
Mufti Saheb’s two sons Zafar Iqbal Siddiqui and Tariq Najeeb, who work in Saudi Arabia as well as daughter Ms Quaneta Parween alias Shammi, had already reached Delhi to participate in the last rites. Besides, Mufti Saheb’s brothers-in-law Mohammed Hussain Zulqarnain, Director, International Council of Islamic Information, London (UK) and Dr Jawed Zulqarnain, social scientist and activist as well as son G M Khalid and maternal nephew Shasuzzaman too were present on the occasion.
