New Delhi, February 13 “Our ambition is to make Delhi a world class city and embodiment of humanity. And, the emergence of the Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI) is a major step in this direction.”
Expressing the above views at a function to dedicate the second phase of the Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI), an autonomous institution under the state government, to the citizens of the Capital on here today, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said: “The credit to give the DSCI a shape goes to the eminent cancer specialist and its founder-Director-cum-CEO Dr R K Grover.”
The institute, approved in April 2006, was inaugurated in August that year by the Chief Minister.
Sheila Dikshit said the DSCI was set up to provide dedicated facilities for comprehensive management of cancer patients in the region, with concepts and technologies matching international standards. Earlier, such facilities were not available for cancer patients in any other hospital under the state government.
Under the second phase, the latest generation city scanner with RT simulation has been commissioned. The DSCI also boasts of fully digital x-ray unit with digital fluoroscopy, ultra-modern digital mammography, high-end ultrasonography unit, complete picture archiving and communication system, ultra-modern lab, state-of-the-art linear accelerators and a patient queue management system.
The Chief Minister said that most advanced surgical facilities, intra-operative radiotherapy, nuclear medicine set-up, alternative medicine facilities and a deemed- University status were the cards in the next phase.
Earlier, praising the CM for taking special interest in improving the condition of the hospitals in Delhi, Veer Singh Dhingan, MLA, Seemapuri, said: “Yahan aspatal marizon ko thik karne ke liye jaane jaate the magar Sheila Dikshitji to bimaar aspatalon ko thik kar rahi hain” (the hospitals were known to treat the patients but Sheila Dikshitji was treating the hospitals itself.
He also paid rich tributes to Dr Grover and said that he had made the DSCI his mission of life and spends most of his time here in making it a top class centre for research and treatment.
The function ended with a vote of thanks by Abdul Mannan, Joint Director (Administration), DSCI. He was all praise for Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Health Minister Kiran Walia, Health Secretary Rajinder Kumar and Dr R K Grover in bringing up this institute of excellence.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Dr Rajpal, Medical Superintendent, GTB Hospital Shahdara; Dr N K Desai, Director, IHBAS, Shahdara; Dr G K Rath, Professor and Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS); Dr O P Kalra, Principal, UCM and Shahid Quraishi, a well known exporter and social activist.
